Prof Thompson is a in paediatric hepatologist with a particular interest in genetic cholestatic liver disease. His group have identified several genes and have established important genotype/phenotype correlations. To quote: “Richard is a paediatric hepatologist who has been lucky enough to be allowed to spend the last 30 years working on genetic cholestasis He has unravelled some of the pathophysiology and this in turn has allowed for advances in both diagnostics and management.
